Broadband Via Arasu Cable in a Month or Two.

The Tamil Nadu government is taking steps to provide affordable broadband Internet access to subscribers through cable TV connection.
In an announcement during the Assembly session in August, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had declared that Arasu Cable, which was providing cable TV connections at Rs 70 a month to its 70 lakh subscribers across the State, would also provide broadband Internet access.
Tamil Nadu Information department secretary T K Ramachandran, responding to a question on when the project would be launched, said, “It will start in the next month or two.”
“First, cable operators will have to come forward and express interest in providing the service. Then the cable operators will learn about the service and how exactly to provide this. The training is currently going on and we will cover every district by the end of this month,” he added.
While tariffs were yet to be fixed, other essentials of the scheme are in place. Internet and VPN service provider RailTel Corporation of India, which collaborated with the State’s pilot project in Vellore, will continue to do so for the main roll out.
